Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant said its iconic music participant has been changed by other gadgets, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, stated: "Right now, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an incredible music experience throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with assist for spatial audio - there's no better strategy to enjoy, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the primary MP3 player that would maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented an entire new class of digital music player that allows you to put your entire music assortment in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he stated at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the same once more."

Related MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the identical success as the iPod.

Apple has launched five versions of its music player - the Traditional, Contact, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent years, with mobile phone technology enabling clients to hearken to music companies on their telephones.

In 2014, the basic click on wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano had been killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod contact was the one mannequin still on sale right this moment.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, in response to its inventor Tony Fadell.
