A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities mentioned.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" sent by a pupil at an elementary school.

It said its local college risk enforcement staff was instantly notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office said.

In video shared by authorities, the boy will be seen being led into a police vehicle.

“This scholar’s habits is sickening, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a statement, noting that the risk came just days after the lethal faculty capturing at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 college students and two teachers lifeless.

“Right now is not the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he said. “This youngster made a faux menace, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

Marceno said his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.
