Speaking in the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I don't plan on popping out for the anthem going forward till I really feel better in regards to the path of our country."
In a weblog post, Kapler questioned whether or not the country's leadership is committed to representing its folks's greatest pursuits and whether the US is really "the land of the free and the house of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her youngsters. They blocked mother and father attempting to organize to charge in to stop the shooter, including a father who discovered his daughter was murdered whereas he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians decide that the lobbyist and gun industries are more essential than our children's freedom to go to high school with no need bulletproof backpacks and energetic shooter drills," Kapler wrote.
Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the dearth of delivery of the promise of what our national anthem represents."
"I am not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I want that I could have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that once you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it's identified by way of protest. The home of the brave ought to encourage this."
