Parent with hid weapon by chance shoots self while at Arlington ISD school, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

The college had early launch and college students have been launched on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His harm was not serious.

The varsity district said White was inside the building, near the lobby space, and not in the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and college officials mentioned there was no threat made and the parent didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The father or mother was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas related to weapons brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington parents said their minds instantly considered the worst once they were notified.

No parent ever needs there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not assist but assume the worst when they do.

"Once I obtained the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I was shocked," mother or father Karima Rasheed stated.

While most occasions, lockdowns are solely drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that realizing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our instructor received a notification on their cellphone saying somebody was within the constructing," he stated.

"What are we going to do? They should go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you never want to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington college and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve received to run wherever that’s safe and conceal," she instructed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell stated one thing must be accomplished now. 

"They want to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to really pass any laws and do something," he added.
