Mike Tyson won’t face fees in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district lawyer says

A California district legal professional declined to file costs Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been recognized, and Tyson requested that no fees be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Workplace concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery towards one other passenger on an airplane whereas ready at the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe mentioned in a statement.

"Our choice is that we will not file any costs towards Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embody the conduct of the victim main as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, in addition to the requests of each the sufferer and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe stated.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video confirmed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson stated the individual was harassing Tyson. The video didn't show what happened before the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file expenses by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement companies "for their cautious, diligent, and professional work."
