A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass capturing, authorities said.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace stated it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a student at an elementary college.

It stated its native school threat enforcement crew was instantly notified and began investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written risk to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy may be seen being led right into a police car.

“This scholar’s behavior is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the menace came just days after the deadly college shooting at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 students and two lecturers lifeless.

“Right now is not the time to act like slightly delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This baby made a faux risk, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”

Marceno said his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The remark got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 school shooting after it came to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of immediately moving in on the gunman.
